You're not alone on this journey—we’re here to help! 💙

This section is for anyone supporting a child who is struggling at home. Whether the challenges come from friendships, school, or family life, the insights here will help you see behavior in a new way so you can respond differently and more effectively.
Once you understand the key puzzle pieces behind why behavior happens, it becomes easier to know what to do next. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs, and it can often feel isolating; like no one else truly understands what you’re going through.
But you’re not alone, and there is hope.

Kids who struggle often stay stuck—but they don’t have to. This website was created to help the important adults in a child’s life—parents, caregivers, and educators—find new ways to understand and support behavior. Whether the child you care about is 4 or 15, you’ll find tools here to help you see behavior through a new lens—and respond in ways that truly make a difference. I hope these resources support you on your journey.
I continue to learn every day despite doing this for 26 years.
I'm not saying that everything you need is on this site.
It is my clinical practice and school-based consulting firm all in one place.
This site is my attempt to reach more people, to help more kids and more families.
It is what I have put together for clients and schools but also it is a place to find more resources.
I hope some of what is here gives you a different way to see your child,
maybe even reassurance that you are not alone.
Every child is amazing- they are all here with a purpose,
but this is a journey, and we are only a guide.
To find the Secret to Happy we have to know about the puzzle pieces that impact behavior every day... then we need to know where to start.
This is a start and your perspective is critical.
You have the ability to help your child figure out the various puzzle pieces that make up HAPPY.
It doesn't matter if you are a full-time working parent, a teacher, or a friend.
It takes ONE person to see your child differently.
There is a purpose, even some goodness, in the struggle.
If you can spin your thinking like this, you WILL find happy.

Your perception and expectations for a child are based on your wiring and previous experiences.
Helping a child find HAPPY will need to consider why you think as you do.
It is just as important to recognize YOUR wiring and threshold needs so that your responses during a moment of stress can be supportive and positive.
Self-care is critical for both parents and kids so take care of YOU. Then once you feel strong, talk with your child about what THEY think is going on.
This short 8-minute introduction video shares the key factors that influence behavior in children so that solutions and strategies can be better utilized.

Often when kids struggle with writing, cutting, or other school skills, we ask them to practice those skills more. But many children first need stronger foundational skills to be successful. The good news is that these skills can be built through fun, engaging activities that support learning in a different way.

Helping teens understand how their brain affects behavior can be the first step toward positive change. This packet helps teens learn how the systems in their body work and provides strategies to help them better manage behaviors that can feel out of control.

This program helps kids understand how their brain can sometimes take over behavior. It also teaches them ways to recognize those feelings, manage their “dragons,” and regain control so they can feel better and do what they need to do.
